Try starting with 32psi all round - that's what Swedishbricks used to recommend and adjust from there. I've got a 240GLT 5-speed, running on 195/65/15s and it averages 31mpg (mean) with a spread of 26-34. There are a couple of figures outwith that, but I suspect that I mis-recorded trip/overall mileage or missed a re-fueling. At 100% + 5% + 2% you'd be about 7.1% out on the speedo. Find a Motorway slip with a Traffic division attached (M6 at Preston J31, M6 at Knutsford services) and there should be a set of calibration markers on the hard shoulder, set 1/4mile apart. Use these to check the speedo's accuracy.

The tyre pressures I quoted don't come from some aftermarket source, but from Volvo; they are in the manual. If you deviate from them markedly you're liable to run into wear problems, or a lack of grip, or possibly both depending how you set it up. If I remember rightly, it was the 2300 FE VX 4/90 that was Britain's finest tow car, not the Victor?
marcmarel. You are crazy and dangerous. At that pressure you are sure to visit the scenery very shortly and wear out the middle of the tyre. Totally over inflated. Regards Peter
sml. The reason over inflation is used for track days is that it de-stabilises the car by reducing the grip to teach you where the limits are and you do not tear the tread off the sides of the tyres. You do not here Lewis screaming down the radio, "come on guys pump the tryes up I want to go faster" If there were to be and RTA you could be prosecuted for having tyres either under or over inflated outwith the car and tyre manufactures specification, and I do not mean the one on the side wall.
